1. After reading verses 1-11, discuss how the example that Jesus gave about David disobeying ceremonial law applied to the accusations of the Pharisees. What were the Pharisees motives and how was their argument dismissed?
2. Knowing the thoughts of the Pharasees, it would seem that Jesus purposefully is provoking them by healing the man on the Sabbath day. Could this be the case? Why or why not?
3. Speculate as to how difficult of a decision it was for Christ to choose His disciples (vs 12-16).
4. Discuss how the poor inherit the Kingdom of God (vs 20).
5. Discuss how the hungry are filled and how the weeping will laugh (vs 21).
6. Discuss how you are blessed when men persecute you and in what parameters are involved in this blessing (vs 22-23)?
7. How have the rich already received their comfort (vs 24)?
8. Is Jesus commanding us to be doormats in verses 27-31? Explain your arguments for or against.
9. Explain verses 32-36.
10. How can verse 38, if used out of context be used destructively/dangerously? In context, explains what it means?
11. Explain in context the example of the tree and its fruit (vs 43-45).
12. Explain how the example of the wise and foolish builders fit in the context of Jesus' words in this chapter overall (vs 46-49).
